Animoto

Hello Everyone,

Animoto is a video creation service/tool that produces video in the form of slideshow using photos, video clips, and music.

I found Animoto to be an innovative to create a slideshow presentation and isn't as formal as other tools like PowerPoint.  I see it as a tool similar to Prezi in the way that it can be an exciting way to do a presentation.  Through using Animoto, your photos flow together to tell a story which is pretty interesting as a viewer.

This week, we were tasked with creating a slideshow presentation using Animoto to demonstrate our knowledge on copyrights after reading this weeks material.  Copyrights are the "exclusive legal rights given to an originator or assignee to print, publish, perform, film or record literary, artistic, musical material and authorize others to do the same."  Understanding copyrights are very important in the digital world because we have access for every thing made at a click of a button.

For my slideshow video, I wanted to get cover the basis of what a copyright was at the beginning.  Most people have a hard time understanding copyrights so I wanted to give a simple explanation.  I found using a wordle in the past resourceful so I was able to find to a wordle for copyrights with attribution (free use of the image).  Next, I found an image that differentiated between plagiarism and copyrights which is helpful to fully grasp copyrights.  It's important to understand the copyright logo and creative commons logo so I included those.

Most digital users like to target and download literary works (especially for research), music, and pictures without checking the copyrights on the product.  I wanted to include these aspects into my slideshow to educate the importance of ensuring that you are allowed to share.  I wanted to drive my point home by finishing with an image depicting the impact on the music and art industry.  Filesharing hurts the music industry because artists don't get and credit and don't get paid for their music.  Another example is how pinterest starves the flow of images because everyone takes them for themselves.

Through this weeks exercise, the learned the important of copyrights and the next time I use images, I will ensure that they attribution.
